Fist Setting of Number The Stars
The first setting of this book is in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1943. During this time period, World War II had just begun. Actually, this is towards the end of the war.

Second Setting of Number The Stars
The second setting of this book takes place at Uncle Henrik's house in Gilleje. He has a beautiful little cottage on the bay, where Annemarie and Ellen can look out at the bay and see Sweden, which at this point is a free country. It is still 1943, and Denmark is in the midst World War II.
Good descriptions of the settings!
Comparing and Contrasting
For our second project we are going to compare Annemarie and Ellen. To start Annemarie and Ellen are best friends, and spend most of their time together. Ellen is Jewish, but Annemarie isn't. Though that is a big difference in their lives, they find a way to look past it by spending time together when Ellen is not at the synagogue, or practicing her religion of Judaism. Annemarie is also a faster runner, than Ellen. An example of that, when they were racing down the street before they get stopped by the soldiers, Annemarie won the race. Ellen is also much more shy than Annemarie. For an example of that is when the soldiers stopped them on the street when they were running, Ellen stayed behind, being the shy girl she is, and didn't talk. These are the similarities and differences between Annemarie and Ellen.
Good job!

Theme
It is always a good to have friend that will always be by your side though anything. An example is how Annemarie and Ellen where best friends that care for each other so much like how Annemarie was a great friend when the soldiers came to their house, Annemarie took Ellen's star of David necklace off so the soldiers will not see that she is Jewish. This story game me a great sense of friendship that was so strong.
Yes, this could be theme.

chapter 11-14 p.88-113

Uncle Henrik, Mama, and Peter were giving out blankets and coats to give to the Jewish people for their journey.
Annemarie knew that Uncle Henrik would be taking the Rosens and other Jewish citizens on a boat ride to (sweeden-a free country) to be safe. Annemarie's mother was 30 minutes late coming home, Annemarie was scared. She looked out the window and her mother was laying on the ground outside. Annemarie ran to see her, Mrs.Johansen said Iwanted to get to you so I ran and tripped from a root of a tree I think I broke my anckle. When they got to the stairs Annemarie saw the package that Peter gave to Mr.Rosen and said it was very important he probably dropped it when he tripped. Annemarie took a basket with the package in it and covered it with food so if a soldier stoped her she would say My Uncle is a fisherman and he forgot his launch. Annemarie was on her way listening to the story of the little red riding hood.
You've written good synopses of the book so far, Mary.

chapter 15-17 p.113-132

Annemarie stared at the soldiers. In her mind she was saying I have to act like Kristi like on the day they got stopped by the soldier when they were coming home from school. Annemarie said to the soldiers Good morning the soldiers said are you alone she said yes. The dogs were going wild so the soldier took the bread split it in half and gave one to each dog. Annemarie said that is my mothers home made bread but he did not listen. The soldier took out (the package) Annemarie wanted to know what was in it but she did not want them to find out. The soldier tore the package open it was a handkerchief. Annemarie saw Uncle Henrik's boat she gave bim his lunch he looked back and said everything wasn't perfect but now it is becuase of you Annrmarie. When the soldiers searched the the boat with their dogs, the dogs could not smell the Jews because of when the dogs smelled the handkerchief it ruined the dogs source of smell. The soldiers got trained dogs to smell the hidden people. Peter took this to the scientists and doctors (how will the trained dogs not smell the Jews). The scientist and doctors worked day and night working on that they finally got it. They created a special drug and put it on the handkerchief. Every boat got onr handkerchief. Annemarie had saved lots of people bt being brave. The war was over yaaa. Peter got caught and got shot in public square at Ryvangen. The truth about Lise's death is that she was in a celler with others for a meeting of the resistance and somehow the Nazi's invated the meeting. Lise was running and the military car saw her and simpuly ran her down. Annemarie still had Ellens necklace and forgot to give it back. Until Annemarie would see Ellen she would wear it.
